For one day a year, the town of Pleasent Valley is full of activity as the towns residents celebrate the yearly Jubilee. So, when a group of Spring Break bound teens are forced to make a detour and end up in Pleasent Valley, they assume it will only be a quick stop. But, only moments after arriving they are confronted by Mayor Buchman (Robert Englund) the Mayor of Pleasent Valley. Although reluctunt at first, the group is convinced by the Mayor to stay the night, with promises of drinking and hard partying. So, aside from a few incidents that indicated something may be amiss, the teens continue to party, even though one by one there numbers are growing smaller. Unknown to the group, the town of Pleasent Valley was once the scene of a bloody massacre..

The year was 1864, and the Confederate States of America was being defeated on all fronts by the Union Army under General Uylesses Grant. But, the brunt of the fighting was occurring in Virginia, as General Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia duked it out with General Grants Army of the Potomac. General Grant wanted to make sure that Lee wouldn't be able to either feed or reinforce his army, so he decided to send General William Tecumseh Sherman and an army of 40,000 on a "March to the Sea". During this campaign, the city of Atlanta, Georgia was burned to the ground. When Shermans army reached Pleasent Valley, they brutally massacred the towns residents and burned the town to the ground, thus setting the stage for what was to occur over one hundread and forty years later..........

I think the above description will give anyone who reads this a good idea of what 2001 Maniacs is about. But, I must say, this a good film. It has alot of gore, and sexual scenes, and the acting is actually pretty good, but with a man in the cast that was once the character of Freddy Krueger from the Nightmare on Elm Street films, it is no wonder it is a good film. But, there were many good performances from the entire cast, which made this film even better. With a pretty concrete storyline, plenty of gore, a good deal of sex and good acting, I give this film 9/10 and believe that if your a gore hound, or if you just want to see a good horror film, then this one is for you. But, as in all of my reviews I suggest you rent it first, because my tastes can be different from other folks.
